The world swam into focus in a blurry, nauseating haze, a fierce drum solo playing inside my skull. I wasn't in my bed, that much was certain. The walls were a different shade of off-white, the curtains a heavier, unfamiliar fabric. My tongue felt like sandpaper, and a metallic tang coated the back of my throat. I pushed myself up, groaning, and the room spun violently. A wave of dizziness hit me, forcing me to clutch my head, squeezing my eyes shut against the relentless throbbing. Nothing. Just a vast, terrifying blank. The last few hours, maybe even the whole night, were a void, a bottomless pit where memories should have been.
